Police said that Head Constable Fayyaz Ali was on his way to duty when he saw the robbers and opened fire, killing one of the robbers while the accomplice of the slain robber opened fire while fleeing, injuring the officer.
According to police, Fayyaz Ali was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Police say 5 and 8 other shells of 9mm were found at the scene and are searching for the fugitive.
